Oyster Pavilion

The Oyster Pavilion is a lightweight structure, crafted from local materials. Timber from Arborica
in Tomales and oysters from Hog Island Oyster Co. But it is more than just a structure. It stands
as an annual symbol of gathering, of coming together with loved ones and the surrounding
community.
Centered around the summer solstice, the pavilion becomes the point of a celebration where
the Dogpatch community gathers at Crane Cove Park to share music, conversation, and most
importantly oysters.
Its timber frame is designed for simplicity, easy to install, easy to dismantle. The oysters are
distributed in the bay, creating a substrate for new oyster growth in the bay, resulting in a
healthier bay ecosystem. During the ceremony, visitors take part in cladding the frame with
oysters, completing the installation together. The pavilion transforms from structure to shared experience, a monument to connection: to place, and people.
